Alternate Leg ID: FAY 015
Area of Operations: South Texas outer continental shelf, Matagorda Bay, Port Isabel, Texas, United States, Gulf of Mexico, North America, North Atlantic
Dates: May 21, 1976 to May 25, 1976
Objectives: General objectives were to obtain quasi-synoptic information on suspended-sediment transport within the South Texas OCS. Specific objectives: 1. obtain water column samples for textural analysis and water chemistry to establish seasonal textural patterns; 2. obtain vertical transmittance-temperature profiles to establish seasonal turbidity patterns; 3. drift bottle casts to measure surface currents during the cruise period; 4. Phleger cores for clay analysis; and 5. hydrocarbon cores.
Type of Activity: Sampling Seismic profiling
Information to be derived: Time series data Samples and chemical analysis Grain size analysis Suspended sediment concentrations
Summary: Stations: 26; Water samples: 78 (3 per station - surface, mid-depth, bottom); Vertical transmittance-temperature profiles: 26; Phleger cores: 26; Hydrocarbon cores: 2; Drift bottle casts: 190; Minisparker profiles: 90 km.
