Summary for Field Activity Number 76032

Alternate Leg ID: ANN-8-76

Area of Operations: eastern Rhode Island Sound, Rhode Island, western Vineyard Sound, Massachusetts, United States, North America, North Atlantic

Dates: August 24, 1976 to September 6, 1976

Chief scientist: Chuck OHara
   Albert Stockel, Woodward-Clyde Consultants

Objectives: The vibracore sampling program is intended to determine the nature of the bottom sediments and shallow substrate of the inner shelf. The core data will be correlated with subbottom seismic profiling data to determine the distribution, lithology and economic importance of offshore geologic features and mineral resources. In addition, these studies will document important landmark data, help to evaluate the feasibility and environmental conditions of offshore mining of mineral deposits and offshore disposal of solid waste material, and provide information on the geology and geologic history of the region.

Type of Activity: Sampling

Information to be derived: Samples and Chemical Analysis
Grain size analysis
Morphology

Summary: Cores: 16; Total core feet: 294 ft (90 m).
