Summary for Field Activity Number 1977-020-FA

Alternate Leg ID: Decca 2/Bravo; CORPUS 49/54

Area of Operations: south Texas outer continental shelf, Texas, Gulf of Mexico, United States, North America, North Atlantic

Dates: May 28, 1977 to June 05, 1977

Objectives: Obtain fresh large-volume cores to aid in the contracted study into the origin of the 27 degree geochemical anomaly, a region on the shelf where an increase in copper, nickel and manganese is apparent.

Type of Activity: Sampling
Seismic profiling

Information to be derived: Samples and chemical analysis
Morphology

Summary: Although the prime mission of the cruise was to obtain cores for geochemical study, attainment of high-resolution profiles was considered important for proper sedimentologic interpretation of the cores. Cores were taken over the entire shelf with sites selected on the basis of previous work. In addition, 20 cores were concentrated around the 27 degree latitude. Hydroplastic cores: 50; Minisparker: 500 km; 7/3.5 kHz Sub-bottom profiler: 600 km.
