Alternate Leg ID: ASTR 84 OCT01
Area of Operations: central Maine inner shelf, Booth Bay, Muscongus Bay, Maine, Gulf of Maine, United States, North America, North Atlantic
Dates: October 01, 1984 to October 14, 1984
Objectives: Collect high-resolution seismic reflection data to define the geology and shallow structure of the inner shelf off the central Maine coast.
Type of Activity: Seismic profiling
Information to be derived: Stratigraphy
Summary: All equipment performed smoothly and satisfactorily. Technically, the cruise was successful. Bad weather delayed departure from Woods Hole five days. Geologically, the inner shelf off the central Maine coast consists mostly of bedrock outcrops and sediment ponds containing fine grained upper Wisconsinan glaciomarine deposits capped by Holocene marine deposits. At first glance, there is little information in the data on late-glacial ice-front positions or on the Holocene low sea-level stand.
