Summary for Field Activity Number 2006-040-FA

Area of Operations: Salt Pond inlet, Cape Cod National Seashore, Eastham, Massachusetts, United States, North America, North Atlantic

Dates: September 25, 2006 to September 28, 2006

Objectives: Measure submarine groundwater discharge in Salt Pond inlet using new eddy correlation approach. ADV and CT will be deployed together during night-time falling tides, while observations (temperature and salinity) of groundwater endmember will be made using a piezometer/peristaltic pump/CT sensor set-up.

Type of Activity: In situ groundwater discharge data collection

Information to be derived:

Summary: 3 3-hr deployments were conducted during falling tides (ending at low tide). We collected continuous current, temperature and salinity data at a location 6m from shore and ~5cm above the subsurface of the 50m-wide Salt Pond inlet channel, and made point measurements of the subsurface conditions during each deployment using a piezometer/peristaltic pump/CT sensor set-up.
