Summary: The 2009 survey of the Mississippi/Alabama barrier islands collected swath bathymetry, backscatter imagery, and chirp sub-bottom profiles both offshore and behind the islands. The survey focused on two areas: the nearshore area surrounding Cat Island, and the nearshore area around the eastern half of Horn Island eastward to the western end of Dauphin Island. The data were collected from two platforms: the CAT BOAT, and the GILBERT. The Cat Island survey was completed between June 21-23 aboard the CAT BOAT. Swath data were collected along 176 km of track lines and chirp data along 172 km of tracklines. The Horn to Dauphin Island survey was completed using both the CAT BOAT and the GILBERT. The CAT BOAT surveyed this area between June 14 and June 20. Swath and Chirp data were collected along 377 km of trackline. The GILBERT surveyed this area between June 28 and July 1 and collected 254 km of swath data and 252 km of chirp data.
