Summary for Field Activity Number 1977-019-FA

Alternate Leg ID: Decca 2/Alpha; CORPUS 53

Area of Operations: Matagorda Bay, Port Isabel, Texas, south Texas outer continental shelf, Gulf of Mexico, United States, North America, North Atlantic

Dates: May 24, 1977 to May 27, 1977

Objectives: Obtain quasi-synoptic information on the suspended-sediment transport system within the South Texas OCS by obtaining samples of the water column for analyses of sediment texture and concentration, sediment mineralogy and trace metals, water chemistry, and coccoliths to establish temporal variability patterns; obtaining vertical transmittance-temperature profiles to establish regional turbidity patterns; and casting drift bottles to measure surface currents during the cruise period.

Type of Activity: Sampling

Information to be derived: Time series data
Samples and chemical analysis
Suspended sediment concentrations

Summary: This cruise was the last of 6 scheduled monitoring cruises to evaluate the temporal and spatial variability of turbidity patterns within the south Texas OCS region. The cruises were conducted between November 1975 and May 1977. Stations: 26; Vertical transmittance-temperature profiles: 26; Water samples: 78; Drift bottles: 335.
